Teaching Experience and Background

oil painting tutor

Tutor's Education

I had an unusual journey as an art student spending almost eight years on art courses or at art school between 1989 and 2001, doing one year of A-level Art, a two-year BTEC National Diploma in Design (specialising in Fine Art), one year of a part-time Fine Art Degree and almost four years on a full-time Fine Art Degree course.

In 2001 I graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Fine Art.

Experience as a Tutor

I have been tutoring oil painting on a one-to-one basis since 2005, teaching people of many different backgrounds, interests and ages. Students have ranged in ability from beginners to more experienced and advanced painters.

I also run a few painting classes for more experienced painters at a local college. I also have experience of running a life drawing class for all levels from beginners to advanced.

I also have additional experience as a trained and practicing phonics tutor for both children and adults.

Artist

I began painting in acrylics in 1990 / 1991 when in my late teens, but very quickly moved onto oils.

I have exhibited my oil paintings in various galleries around the UK, including central London where I have sold paintings. I have won a number of awards for my painting and have been involved in a number of major art competitions including the Hunting Art Prizes Exhibition at the Royal College of Art and making two television appearances in 2003 and 2004.

Although most of my work is figurative in nature, I have experience of abstract painting and now have a growing concern with the fusion of realism and abstraction.

I really do believe that art in any form is one of the most profound things you can do and oil painting to me is one of the greatest of all.
